It's all about working with the wood... sometimes it manifests as a little rustic Mesquite box, other times as a song. My life revolves around vibration and wood; I live in the woods and it helps me vibrate in a higher, more harmonious way. In this current chapter, life is filled with music and my living made by building musical instruments. Music and playing instruments has been my life, its thread, and its river since I was 13.

About The Woodcraft
My favorite thing (next to building Birdsongs) is to craft things of the leftover pieces... but as always the music part comes first!

About The Music
Music ~ my dharma, my prayer, my river...  First attracted by the psychedelic and powerful sounds of the electric guitar, then the purity of the acoustic, the opportunities of electric bass, the craft of songwriting, and the process of creation through recording & improvisation... and vibration, sacred vibration. All important in my life has been brought to me through music and all of meaning to me I have sought to share through it as the teacher, builder of the tools, wordsmith and sound artist life has molded out of me. From where I am, music is life. They are inseparable ~ they breathe as one.

Projects currently include gathering & collecting recordings into releasable form from solo acoustic stuff, acoustic/eclectic... folk to free jazz to spoken word, the wild improvised prayer music of Sonic Light Embrace, improvised soundscapes of Skyett (one head, four hands, and some beat up 4-tracks) and more.

Organic Sound Records is being launched as a vehicle for a self-determined, largely self-contained wordsmith & sound artist to release the music that comes through him without any regards whatsoever to commercial viability. I'm not interested in "the ride" of fame so big labels have nothing to offer me in return for what I would sell out to them in the process. Organic Sound will grow to provide the adventurous listener with music and recordings of other projects and artists.

All of my stuff has a mix of spiritual & worldly lyrics and a mash of influences; this one is the truest to me at the time it was recorded, over the past few years. It's eclectic and electric with some acoustic and I overlaid everything myself except for the jam at the end; on that I overlaid others. Ever hear psychedelic guitar, Native American flute and djembe over piano and drums before? Neither had I... I hope you like it and it means something to you.

Current music projects "in process" and/or being prepped for release in the mp3 age:

Sonic Light Embrace
Instrumental electric prayer music from 2005. Textural ethereal electric-guitar-as-voice, the intent is to have the vibrations of intentful sound help one's own harmonize. A sonic Namaste. Much mellower than the second SLE album, in which the intent was to up the dose & rearrange 'em by sheer sonic impact. Coming soon!

Sonic Light Embrace ~ Sphurana
More electric prayer music that followed, mostly instrumental. Very wild textural psychedelic fusion, the title track is an explosive excursion that in spots sounds like atoms splitting & the cry of the universe. Coltrane meets Blue Cheer by the Ganges. Remain in your seat until the room comes to a complete halt. This is where the universe grabs you with both hands and Namastes the living f@&% out of you. Coming soon!

Wrath of Saul

One of my favorite musical experiences has been finding some lower-dial college or community FM station and listening to how random it gets during the "overnight" programs. I just love this. So, having crates full of decades of multitrack tapes to pull material from, I like to combine bits and pieces into what would resemble an hour or so of a random late-night FM programming. The name Wrath Of Saul came from my overactive brain which often forms gibberish sentences when I'm half asleep & on my way "out." I write these down, and there are some nuggets in there. I have no idea where this shit comes from. The name Saul when googled comes up with several correlations - Guns 'n Roses guitar slinger Slash's real name is Saul, but that has absolutely nothing to do with this. Saul of Tarsus neither, nor the reference in "...and I used to love her, but it's Saul over now."

Scott Albert Trio & Friends
I'm hearing this weird, floaty, Eastern-influenced psychedelic jazz in my head and I'll be recording it shortly. Deep, spiritual stuff to me. The "Trio" refers to Me, Myself & I since I'll be playing the main instruments with guest overdubs & overlays of friends past, passed & present mixed in.

More to come, much more to come....

Working With The Wood

Here's what really floats the boat... the biggest pebble into the pond I've been involved with. My main gig in this chapter. Birdsong Guitars
was an inevitability; the music and its tools hold equal fascination and magic to me, and as life brought woods & building & woodcraft it was natural they all be an extension of each other.

For years my woodworking guru filled the world with rustic "found wood" boxes and art. With his passing came the pull to continue his tradition, incorporating woods from my guitar projects along with the Cedar, Mesquite and Oak of the Texas "Hill Country."

Here's a wild Mahogany & Ebony box from a while back with crushed Turquoise in the cracks.

Rustic Cedar incense box. This is from a dead lower branch of a Cedar tree still alive and well out at the homestead... it has been brought back to life to hold incense around the workshop.

Pieces Available:
From time to time I may have a piece or three available and I'll post them here. Use the "buy now" for online payment. OR drop an email to vandweller1 "at" yahoo.com. I'll accept checks or money orders (bank or postal) made out to Scott Beckwith. All prices include shipping in the continental USA, and all profits go directly to more projects at the homestead & workshop. Thank you for taking a piece of me into your lives... I hope it brings you peace & good vibrations.

ccarrowheads.jpg (155186 bytes) As a devotional act to honor my late mentor, I craft these arrowhead pendants from a long edge cut of Mesquite, sterling silver wire, and hemp rope. They all look different ~ yours will also be unique in grain and coloration. All dollars go directly into the music fund. $25 postpaid.

There is an old saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Sometimes the student awakens and realizes the teacher is already there...

The lucky student awakens in time to understand... and learns as much as he can. In that, one is doubly blessed.

Thank you, John. "Ashoge."

Wherever you go, whatever you're doing, stay connected with the Earth; stay in touch with nature. It will keep you grounded and centered, a stable garden for Greater Seed to take root. In moments of clarity I realize it is from the land I draw much nourishment & inspiration.

Thought for the day: If I make today "day one" anything is possible. Then all I have to do is maintain.
